Roofing technology key to working safely at heights

Technology that enables employees to safely work in hard-to-reach areas on and around roofs is very important for those in the industry.

Roof contractor Premier Roofing works on big jobs that have differing heights, shapes, sizes and access requirements, and required access to a dynamic fleet of rental equipment that met its needs.

The company therefore chose to implement access technology from United Forklift and Access Solutions, which would help its workers operate more efficiently.

The technology includes a Haulotte Optimum 8 AC electric scissor lift, boom lifts and telehandlers.

“United’s access equipment fits in perfectly with our company ethos,” said Ian Burns, production and OH&S manager, Premier Roofing.

“It’s safe and efficient.”

Premier Roofing also has its own existing fleet of access equipment, so having similar equipment provided by United under a rental agreement made smooth operations for all the staff.

“Using similar equipment made life really easy for us. It means our staff can switch from one of our permanent fleet to one of our rental fleet and instantly know how to use the machine,” said Burns.

United supplied Premier Roofing with seven different kinds of access equipment, including boom lifts, scissor lifts and telehandlers, designed to be industry benchmarks of safety and efficiency. The majority of the equipment is under a rental agreement with United to meet the changing needs of such a fast-moving company.

The fleet of equipment includes a 26 m telescopic boom lift, a 20 m telescopic boom lift, a 14 m telescopic boom lift, a Haulotte Optimum 8 AC electric scissor lift, a 2.6 t telehandler and a 3 t telehandler.

The Haulotte Optimum 8 AC electric scissor lift offers a forward speed of 5 km/h, a 1.5 m turning radius and integrated safety features. Asynchronous AC motors facilitate smooth precision movements in difficult-to-access places while ensuring the safety of its operators and clean, green, environmentally harmonious operation.
